Do you learn by playing?! Then you belong in the Discovery Room!
At the Saint Louis Science Center, we seek to make science fun through informal, interactive learning experiences. We are a team of educators, entertainers and science enthusiasts. Our expert staff, passionate volunteers, educational and corporate partners all work together to make the Saint Louis Science Center a leader in its field.
The Discovery Room is designed for young children ages one to eight and their families to experience science play together. In this space, children immerse themselves in science play, deepen their understanding of how the world works, and test new ideas. Adults join in these experiences by playing alongside their children while strengthening their own knowledge of science.
The Discovery Room Educator is the heart of the gallery experience. Share in the wonder and joy of science play while engaging with visitors of all ages in the Discovery Room.
Facilitating: Prepare the setting for successful, meaningful learning experiences. Invite visitors to join in the fun and assist them as needed.
Making Connections: Make science meaningful by connecting new ideas to prior knowledge. Build ideas through conversations and interactive play.
Physical Demands: Science play in this setting requires good stamina and range of motion. Be prepared to be on your feet most of the day. You will bend, kneel and lift as you work and play.
Animals and Exhibits: Authentic experiences are enriched by live animals and clean exhibits that require daily attention.
Cross Training: Learn the ins and outs of other departments for opportunities and connections beyond the Discovery Room!
Flexible Schedule: Science play can occur any day or time, within or beyond museum hours (9:30 am-5:30 pm). A flexible schedule is required to accommodate this need.
Other: Although we do our best to anticipate the future, other duties may be required as assigned.
