  • Overview

    The Grants Manager is responsible for managing all grant related activities on behalf of the Institution, including the process to develop grant proposals and solicitations; the collection of all pertinent financial information and data for reporting purposes; the oversight of the grant researcher and writer; all phases of grant research, proposal creation, and grant submission process; and the tracking of all outstanding proposals and awards received.


    • Oversees, coordinates and assists staff with all phases of the grant development process.
    • Aligns grant opportunities with the needs of the Institution.
    • Conducts and/or manages grant development activities including research, creation of timelines, preparation of grant budgets, proposal and report writing and data collection.
    • Represents the Institution and collaborates with outside partners and organizations for grant development and implementation; networks with internal and external grant stakeholders as well as other grant development professionals.
    • Conducts and coordinates grants research efforts including data collection, needs assessments and analysis and compilation.
    • Identifies potential funding sources and opportunities; makes recommendations for grants team consideration.
    • Stays current in changing grant standards and proposal guidelines, and writes, edits and approves grants accordingly.
    • Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations administered by the grantor and translates these rules and regulations to the project leaders.
    • Performs functions of financial administration and reporting to include, but not limited to: preparation and timely submission of grant applications and reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets and coordination of budgeted funds.
    • Serves as a liaison with partners and other departments on issues regarding grants.
    • Monitors programs funded by grants to ensure compliance with grantor guidelines.
    • Assists in evaluating the fiscal administration of grant programs.
    • Oversees the preparation and timely submission of grant applications, application amendments and budget transfers.
    • Supervises, trains and evaluates grants researcher and writer.
    • Performs other responsibilities as required.

    • Combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
    • Three or more years prior grant writing and management preferred.


    • Strong written and communications skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals.
    • Strong project management and execution skills and the ability to initiate and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Raiser's Edge and searching on-line databases and the Internet.
    • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
    • Experience with budget development and monitoring.
    • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
