To serve and protect visitors, employees, property and assets of all three properties of the Saint Louis Science Center. Able to remain calm and take appropriate action as well as maintaining a professional and impartial stance in all safety, security and/or disaster situations encountered.
High school diploma or GED equivalent, college degree preferred.
If not certified in First Aid, CPR and AED, certification must be obtained within six months of employment. Private Security Officer License from St. Louis County or St. Louis City.
At least two years’ experience in security or related employment. (Security, Law Enforcement or Military experience preferred).
Ability to communicate effectively in English, oral and written. Demonstrate incident reporting skills.
Basic high school math skills.
Possess the skills necessary to identify security and safety hazards and respond.
Evaluate appropriate courses of action when responding to hazards, incidents and requests for assistance.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures; ability to understand and follow Science Center policies and procedures pertaining to all aspects of security for the Science Center campus, Collections, visitors and staff.
Must pass background check
Security posts are inside and outside, year round in all types of weather. Security shifts can be as long as 10 hours or more and while most work weeks are 40 hours they can vary. Security posts require coverage seven days a week, including holidays and may occasionally be overnight. Part-time officers are regulated to approximately 24 to 28 hours per week, or more if approved by the Security Manager. Off days may not be consecutive depending on security staffing needs.
Moderate Activity is required. The officer will be required to stand, sit and/or walk and climb stairs throughout a shift.
Will be required to lift or move equipment. Place a person, at least 100 pounds, in a wheelchair. Lift a child (50 – 75 pounds) and carry in a rescue. Lift and operate safely a 20-pound portable fire extinguisher.
