  • Overview

    The mission of the Saint Louis Science Center is “to ignite and sustain lifelong science and technology learning.”  The Director - Visitor Services will accomplish this mission by ensuring the highest level of visitor enjoyment, experience, and safety while exploring over 300,000 square feet of science and technology.  Additionally, this position is responsible for setting the tone of customer service for the visitors of Saint Louis Science Center.  Finally, this position acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) serving as point of contact during emergency situations working with internal departments and public agencies to ensure the safety of the visitor and staff.

     

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

     

    Who reports to this position: Manager Visitor Services and Group Sales Manager

     

    Assists Managing Director as retail liaison with vendor partners.

     

    Responsible for Box Office sales, Advanced Sales and Group Reservations, and Parking Services.

     

    Coordinates with Marketing, Membership, and all ticketed venues, Events, Security and Education to facilitate clear communication to all visitors

    Responsibilities

    • Review & develop operational policies and procedures as needed and make recommendations for improved service or visitor experience.
    • Provide leadership, training and daily supervision of department employees.
    • Manage professional development of direct reports by setting goals, maintaining performance records, providing written evaluations, and conducting ongoing feedback and coaching.
    • Responsible for hiring all department staff.
    • Prepare required reports for attendance reporting and other quantitative measures of performance.
    • Review records or reports pertaining to activities such as payroll to verify details, monitor work activities, or evaluate performance.
    • Maintain Siriusware ticketing program, entering work orders for Planetarium, OMNIMAX® Theater, Discovery Room, special exhibitions, various classes, and inventory items.
    • Develop and manage budget for assigned departments, reporting regularly to Managing Director
    • Communicate pertinent Visitor Services information to other departments through meetings, calendars, notices, etc.
    • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent decision-making skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings and/or holidays.

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience managing a customer service, call center or ticketing department required.
    • Budget Management and business analysis
    • Quantitative reporting and forecasting experience highly desired.

     

    EDUCATION:

    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Hospitality or related discipline required.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    Certificates in CPR, AED and First Aid desired.

     

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the responsibilities of the Director - Visitor Services job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk up to a quarter mile indoors and work for short periods outdoors; stand; lift up to 30 pounds; reach with arms and hands; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
