  • Overview

    OMNIMAX® Theater Ushers provide an exceptional visitor experience while coordinating timely visitor entry to and exit from the OMNIMAX Theater.  Theater Ushers project a professional image and proactively interact with Theater patrons and visitors in public areas, with the goal of ensuring a positive, safe, and memorable OMNIMAX Theater and general Saint Louis Science Center visit.


    Interact with Theater patrons and all visitors in a kind and helpful manner while:

    • Under the direction of the Theater Supervisor, coordinate timely visitor entry and exit for the OMNIMAX®  Theater, including large groups of children (all ages) from schools, groups from senior communities, special needs facilities, visitors in wheelchairs, elderly visitors, visitors with strollers, the visually impaired, the hearing impaired, and any other persons or groups requiring special consideration and assistance.
    • Responsible for making clear and concise seating announcements over a public address system.
    • Verify and scan/collect tickets.
    • Monitor the appearance of the Theater, including entrance and exit areas, for general cleanliness, safety, and repair/maintenance issues; respond accordingly by taking action when appropriate, and/or notifying the Theater Supervisor.
    • Assist in cleaning the Theater between shows.
    • Operate basic audio visual equipment
    • Monitor visitor behavior, enforcing Theater rules regarding cell phone usage and disruptive or unsafe behavior.
    • Via the Theater Supervisor, maintain a thorough knowledge of current Science Center films, offerings, and exhibitions.
    • Provide suggestions for activities based on age, demographics and interests; share information about promotions/combos/specials.
    • Answer general visitor questions; give directions; help plan visits.
    • Responsible for assisting with Theater evacuation in emergency situations.
    • Under the direction of the Theater Supervisor, follow proper procedures in the event of visitor injury or lost children.
    • Attend staff meetings and /or training sessions to encourage teamwork, strengthen and promote communication, and enhance professional growth.
    • Perform other duties as required under the direction of the Theater Supervisor and Theater Manager.


    • High school diploma or G.E.D. required; outgoing service-orientated personality; patience; good listening, oral communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to respond effectively and expediently to unforeseen circumstances, changes or emergencies, while dealing with large crowds; enjoys and thrives proactively working with and amongst the public; ability to work as part of a team without close supervision; general PC skills; basic arithmetic skills; experience with public interaction or in the hospitality industry a plus; English proficiency required, ability to speak additional languages a plus; must be available to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays


    • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
    • Standard (with correction) hearing and day/night vision
    • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
    • Ability to climb regular and spiral stairs several times a day
