  • Overview

    Operates, maintains, and supervises the use of the Pulseworks ESP Motion Simulator, I360 Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter. Operates and oversees the maintenance of the pedal and electric tractor rides in the Tractor Run venue (seasonal.) Aids in the facilitation, operation, and supervision of quality visitor experiences in the temporary Special Exhibitions. Coordinates supervisory needs with the Special Exhibitions Manager and the Special Exhibitions Assistant Supervisor. Assists the Special Exhibitions Manager with future development, including departmental needs, staffing, scheduling, and exhibit planning.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide and ensure a guest-focused mentality both personally and for the Special Exhibitions department
    • Properly and safely operate the Pulseworks ESP, I360 simulators, and VR Transporter
    • Properly and safely assist the maintenance and repair the pedal and electric Tractor Run tractors
    • Maintain operational and technical logs in accordance to the expectations of the Special Exhibitions Manager
    • Support Special Exhibitions Manager in ensuring that all other Special Exhibitions staff are trained in the safe operation of the simulators which includes the following of proper procedure and enforcement of simulator safety rules
    • Support the Special Exhibitions Manager in the maintenance and emergency repair of the Pulseworks simulators and Tractor Run equipment
    • Ensure cleanliness of the Experience Flight gallery (dusting, vacuuming and glass cleaning). This includes monitoring supplies and communicating any needs to the Manager
    • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of each special exhibition, as well as Science Center operation and procedures
    • Cashiering: Conduct ticket transactions for the exhibition and the simulators as well as all other venues and provide suggestions based on age, demographics and interests; share promotions/combos/specials
    • Facilitate visitor entry into and exit from the exhibition
    • Facilitate demonstrations and activities inside the exhibition
    • Respond promptly to visitor questions, concerns and/or complaints
    • Monitor visitor behavior and assist Security staff in enforcing the basic safety, security and emergency procedures
    • Ability to work with large groups, including school-age children
    • Helps maintain strong working relationships with other departments
    • Assists the Special Exhibitions Manager with planning meetings, cross-departmental work, and representing the Special Exhibitions department at special events
    • Perform all other duties as required or assigned

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervise all paid and unpaid Special Exhibition staff, including oversight of cash control, schedule daily assignments, and facilitate lunch breaks, etc.
    • Responsible for making routine operation decisions and ensuring that appropriate customer service procedures are upheld and embraced by Special Exhibition Assistants
    • Assists the Manager with formulating policies and procedures to promote and ensure top-notch external and internal service. Assist in conveying pertinent Special Exhibitions information to other departments through meetings, calendars, notices, etc.
    • Monitor ticket sales and cash control
    • Maintain and operate the Pulseworks ESP, I360, Tractor Run, and VR Transporter simulators
    • Train staff for the daily operation of the simulators, Tractor Run, and exhibition components
    • Assists the Manager with developing and deploying internal staff education for new exhibitions

    Qualifications

    • Excellent communication/ interpersonal skills
    • Some mechanical aptitude required; basic knowledge of tool use
    • Outgoing, service orientated personality
    • Patience, good listening, and problem solving skills
    • Ability to respond effectively and expediently to unforeseen circumstances, changes or emergencies, while dealing with large crowds and while providing leadership to coworkers
    • Ability to perform job duties as part of a team without close supervision
    • Perform cash and credit card transactions in an accurate and efficient manner; basic ticketing system knowledge a plus 
    • Must be available to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
    • Present a clean and professional appearance by adhering to the uniform policy

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s or Technical Degree required; Business, Non-Profit Management, Museum Studies backgrounds a plus

     

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of two (2) years’ previous employment supervising staff with an emphasis on customer service
    • Retail, Restaurant, or Amusement Park experience a plus

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • English necessary, additional languages a plus
    • Good verbal communication skills

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
    • Must be able to walk up and down stairs comfortably
    • Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs
    • Must be comfortable with working in a variety of conditions (indoors, outdoors, inclement weather)

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • 12,000 sq. ft. exhibition hall, public museum setting. Outdoors Spring – Fall in the Tractor Run area of GROW.
