At the Saint Louis Science Center, our mission is to “ignite and sustain lifelong science and technology learning.” We seek to make science fun through informal, interactive learning experiences. We are a team of educators, entertainers and science enthusiasts! Our expert staff, passionate volunteers, educational and corporate partners all work together to make the Saint Louis Science Center one of the top 10 in the country.
GameXPloration focuses on games, gaming, and the science behind why and how we play. Welcome visitors to a universe of games, a universe that does not follow the dimensions of space and time, where you will play to learn and learn to play. See what games reveal about us. They allow us to explore new identities, relate to others and grow more competent in skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.
The Educator in GameXPloration is the missing puzzle piece. Keep the gallery dynamic by developing new and exciting programs, cart activities and demonstrations that activate the gallery. Invite visitors to join in the fun and assist them as needed to help them explore a universe of games and see themselves in a whole new dimension: as a gamer!
Program Development: Research, develop and deliver programs, cart activities, and even games for our various audiences that align with education standards and topical needs.
Program Facilitation: Make games and science meaningful to our visitors by helping them and connect new ideas with their prior knowledge. Build critical thinking skills through conversations and interactive play. Assist other educators to deliver various education programs to groups and to visitors during special events.
Gallery Presence: Become versed in interpretation and apply it in the galleries.
Physical Demands: It is required that you have good physical stamina and a range of motion so you can be on your feet most of the day. We also ask that you can lift up to 40 pounds.
Cross Training: Learn the ins and outs of other departments for opportunities and connections beyond the GameXP!
Schedule: We host a variety of programs, some outside of museum hours (9:00 am-5:30 pm) a flexibility schedule is required to accommodate our needs.
Other: Although we do our best to anticipate the future, other duties may be required as assigned.
A high energy educator who wants to make science accessible to all learners. Must have the ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences, love working as part of a team, and be a lifelong learner. A passion for working with and around teenage audiences is also a plus.
